#streetstyle – London Girls

In #streetstyle, ART & FASHION, Features, HOME by Hannah Beer

#streetstyle is a feature in which your friend and ours, Hannah Beer, skips around London stopping, photographing and questioning those she deems stylish. If you have noticed an Audrey Hepburn look-alike admiring your fashion it was probably Ms. Beer. It is also worth noting that the concept of street style is unique to Prancing Through LIFE. So, after a long time away from London (or at least its streets, due to exam revision), this week I finally got back to street style. However, this week also saw me starting work experience in The City. A great place to try to understand the world of work, but perhaps not the best place to seek out London’s most stylish, being as it is a land awash with suits and ballet pumps. Imagine my delight, then, when I saw Elena in her docs and tropical shorts on my lunch break. This time spent in The City will go to explain why street style is a very female affair this week – there are only so many blue suits one can see before becoming immune…

Elena, 20

Seen: St Paul’s Cathedral

photoAs I may have mentioned before, I have a bit of a thing for docs. I’m fairly sure I’ve featured them in almost street style pieces I’ve done, and I should probably add some variation to them, but I’ll let it slide for now, because these docs are paired so fantastically with Elena’s tropical shorts that I just couldn’t not post them. I loved how casual Elena looked against the sea of pencil skirts and black blazers, and her very holey jumper is just perfect for temperamental English summertime. She told me that she makes a conscious effort to wear more colour after years of wearing black on black on black, and I have to say, after seeing these shorts, I’m almost convinced to start doing the same.

What does style mean to you?

Something comfortable, first of all. And then something fun – I always want to bring some colour to what I’m wearing!

Coleen, 25

Seen: Kentish Townphoto

DSC_0120Okay, so I didn’t exactly see Coleen on the street, but I’m bending the rules a little bit because I love this look. Coleen was working in Neil’s Yard, and I knew I wanted to photograph her the minute I saw her fringe and the top of her dress over the counter. After slip dresses, these full skirted summer ones are my absolute favourite. They are so classic and yet still manage to look eternally cool – especially on Coleen. Her gold chain and her red sandals that matched the flowers on her dress were further proof, if ever I needed it, that in the case of street style (or rather, off-street style), going with your gut can really pay off.

What does style mean to you?

Something that goes without thinking!

Hannah Beer is a student at University College London. She studies Italian and German. In her spare time Hannah enjoys eating red velvet cupcakes and banging on about feminism. When Hannah grows up she’d like to be Audrey Hepburn – this may prove difficult but let the haters hate. Hannah looks a lot like anyway Audrey Hepburn so she’s half way there.
